Join us around Chesterfield to Collect Litter, Make New Friends & Improve Our Community

A great opportunity to help our local environment and possibly make new friends.

Talk Trash was created and funded by Chris Maloney. I have lived in Chesterfield most of my life and have a great deal of love for the town. While out walking with my young son, I couldn’t help but notice the amount of litter on every stretch of pathway. I noticed this more and more as we headed out regularly for walks. It was time to do something about it that would engage others and in a way that could help others.

“We couldn’t believe that so many areas have so much litter and knew we wanted to do something about it. We just knew that we couldn’t do it on our own”.

why we started.

I feel that we can all agree that the quality of our environment is very important. But what is also incredibly important is our mental health. Talk Trash was started to encourage our local community out of their homes to do something good. Giving many people the opportunity each week to meet new people and simply have a chat.

This could quite literally be the highlight of the week for many people. Especially those living alone and who regularly go many days without speaking to another person. This weekly meeting could quite literally be the only time someone has a conversation with another person. The mental health benefits of joining us are huge and you will be helping people in our community while improving the environment.

In Chesterfield, we are very fortunate to live close to many beautiful nature hot spots. It is time to start looking after these areas for people to enjoy for generations to come.

who is this for.

Talk Trash is a weekly meet for like-minded people wanting to help our local environment while meeting new people.

It is a great opportunity that allows individuals who have little social interaction during the week to meet someone new.

Talk Trash was started with two main purposes in mind. Firstly, to improve the quality of our local environment. Secondly, to help the well-being for those locals who could benefit from the activity.

about us.

Chesterfield is a beautiful historic town in the stunning county of Derbyshire. There are many fabulous walking areas around Chesterfield that give great opportunities to be enjoyed by our community. In a post-pandemic world, we have all got used to spending more time at home.

Unfortunately, for those people living alone, it can be especially difficult as it means they often go long periods of time without any genuine social connection. Talk Trash isn’t just about collecting litter. It is about bringing purpose into people’s lives and giving them a regular opportunity to meet new people and know that every week they will chat to someone real.

faqs.

We have put together some typical questions that we get asked and that we think you might be wondering.

This very much varies depending on the location we visit. It can be anywhere from 1km to 5km.

But, you are welcome to leave when ever you feel you have had enough walking. There is no pressure to stay with us and it is not a race.

We arrive in a van to be able to take all the waste straight to the tip. Although, if you would like to help us by taking some waste with you to dispose of that would be amazing.

We absolutely encourage recycling. Where people turn up in groups, it often is nice if one person collects general waste and the other collects products we can recycle. This will help us massively when safely disposing of the waste collected.

You are welcome to help us more by rasising awareness of our group and the importance of dispossing waste responsibly. Liking and sharing our social media posts and inviting friends to join us is also great.

You may also help by donating litter picking equipment. This can help some participants that don’t have much spare cash during the rise in cost of living.

Absolutely no charge. We just want people to join in, stretch their legs and have a chat with new people.
